What Do You Need To Submit A Warranty Claim For A Warped Cabinet Door?

To submit a warranty claim, first check your invoice to confirm the door has coverage. Then measure the warp or twist and take photos showing the measurement. You will also need your invoice number and item ID. You can submit this information to Cutting Edge through our online ordering platform, by phone, or by email.

You’re reading this because you received a twisted or warped cabinet door. Maybe it arrived that way, or moved after installation. Can you order a replacement under warranty? How much warp is allowed? What do you need to measure? Which photos should you take? Most importantly, how do you submit a warranty claim and get a replacement moving?

At Cutting Edge Doors & Woodworking in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, we manufacture cabinet doors and wood components for contractors across Canada. We offer a one-year warranty for our cabinet doors, although some sizes and styles have restrictions. From September 2025 through August 2026, we replaced just over 400 individual cabinet doors because of warp or twist. We work with wood every day, so we know doors can move despite our quality checks.

In this article, you’ll learn:

Cutting Edge’s Warranty Coverage For Twisted Or Warped Cabinet Doors

Most Cutting Edge cabinet doors have one-year warranty coverage against warp and twist unless your confirmation or invoice says otherwise. However, warranty coverage does not mean a door must be perfectly flat. Wood can move as temperature and humidity change, so our warranty allows for a certain amount of movement.

For doors eligible for warp and twist coverage, these limits apply:

Door Size Maximum Allowable Warp or Twist
Less than 32″ high 3/32″ (2.5 mm)
32″ high and higher 3/16″ (5 mm)
Less than 30″ wide 3/32″ (2.5 mm)
30″ wide and wider 3/16″ (5 mm)

For example, a 28″-high door with 1/16″ of warp is below the 3/32″ allowance and would not qualify for replacement under warranty. However, if the same door has 1/8″ of warp, it exceeds the allowance.

Which Cabinet Doors May Not Have Warp Or Twist Coverage?

Some door sizes and construction methods have a higher risk of movement. Because of this, we do not offer a warranty against warp or twist. These exceptions include:

  • Doors 43″ tall or taller without a centre rail
  • Doors 30″ wide or wider without a centre stile
  • Melamine and MDF doors 30″ wide or wider or 43″ tall or taller

Solid wood slabs, fluted doors, and slat doors have additional restrictions. Their construction methods make them less stable beyond these sizes. Cutting Edge does not warranty these door styles against warp, twist, expansion, or contraction when they are over 16″ across the grain or 32″ with the grain.

If one of these restrictions applies to your door, our team will note it on your confirmation or invoice. This makes your invoice the best place to start when checking your warranty coverage

Warp Vs Twist: Will It Affect Your Warranty Claim?

Warp and twist sound different, but Cutting Edge treats them the same for warranty purposes. In fact, twist is a type of warp.

Generally speaking, a warp is a curve along an edge of the door. When you place the door on a flat surface, part of that edge may lift away from the surface. A twist runs diagonally through the door instead. For example, one corner may sit flat while the opposite corner lifts.

Although the movement looks different, the same warranty tolerances and exceptions apply to both. You do not need to decide whether your door is technically warped or twisted before submitting a claim. What matters is how much it has moved and whether that measurement exceeds the allowed tolerance.

How To Tell If Your Warped Cabinet Door Has Warranty Coverage

Once you understand the warranty limits, determine whether your door falls outside them. You can do this in three steps.

Step 1: Check Your Invoice

Start by finding the confirmation or invoice for the affected door. Look for a note stating there is no warranty against warp or twist. If there is no restriction, confirm that the order shipped less than one year ago.

Step 2: Measure The Warp Or Twist

Place the door on a flat, level surface, such as a metal table. Measure the largest gap between the door and the surface, then take a clear photo with your ruler or measuring device visible. If you do not have a suitable flat surface, you can use a piece of string instead. Pull the string tightly across the door and measure the largest gap between the string and the door. Then, take a photo showing the measurement.

Once you have your measurement, compare it with the warranty tolerance for your door’s size.

Step 3: Gather Your Warranty Claim Information

If your door exceeds the allowed tolerance, gather the information needed for your claim:

  • Original invoice number
  • Item ID for each affected door
  • Quantity requiring replacement
  • Amount of warp or twist
  • Photos showing the measurement

Providing complete information with your first request helps the Order Desk review your claim without stopping to ask for missing details.
