Does Cutting Edge Have A Minimum Order Quantity For Cabinet Doors?

There are no minimum order quantity requirements at Cutting Edge for cabinet doors, but learn how placing larger orders can save you money.

A toy yellow flatbed truck carrying three wooden blocks spelling out MOQ. Some cabinet door suppliers have minimum order quantity requirements, although Cutting Edge does not.

You spent hours finding the right cabinet door supplier and chose a few doors to test – just enough to see their quality. However, when it came time to order, they informed you of their minimum order quantity requirement. Now your plan is destroyed, the supplier has wasted hours of your time, and the job is still hanging over your head. If you’ve ever had to over-order to get a supplier to take you seriously, you know how frustrating and costly it can be.

At Cutting Edge, we’ve helped contractors across Canada for over 20 years, and we’ve seen how often you need just a few doors. You might be testing a new supplier or completing your job. Either way, small orders aren’t a hassle to us; they’re a part of doing business. We believe that providing high-quality cabinetry shouldn’t be complicated. That’s why we’ve made the deliberate choice not to enforce a minimum order quantity.

By the end of this article, you’ll know:

Let’s get started by learning why some suppliers have minimum order quantities.

Some Cabinet Door Suppliers Have Minimum Order Quantity Requirements

In the cabinet door industry, some suppliers require you to meet a minimum order quantity before they’ll even process your request. Sometimes it’s based on the number of units, and other times it’s tied to a minimum dollar amount. For example, a supplier may require you to order at least 10 or 20 doors, meet a minimum spend, or pay a minimum price or handling fee for smaller jobs. These requirements are an unnecessary obstacle, especially when all you need is a handful of doors to complete a job or test a product.

But why do they do this?

Well, from a business standpoint, larger orders are more cost-effective to produce. Every order requires machine setup, handling, packaging, and admin time. The cost per piece skyrockets when those steps are applied to just one or two doors, so some suppliers choose to avoid that scenario altogether. Their systems are built for scale, not for flexibility.

That may be good for their bottom line, but it doesn’t help you. And that’s why Cutting Edge operates differently.

Cutting Edge Does Not Have A Minimum Order Quantity

There are no minimum order quantities when you order from Cutting Edge. You can order one door, three doors, or three hundred – it’s entirely up to you. We have designed our processes to be adaptive to your varied needs. Small jobs are unavoidable, whether you missed ordering some pieces, need some finishing touches, or want to place a test order. You shouldn’t have to hit a minimum to place an order.

This approach also helps us build a relationship and trust with you at your pace. You can start small, evaluate our craftsmanship and lead times, and scale up when you’re ready. Our goal is to remove friction, not create it. That’s why we’ve found our no-minimum policy leads to stronger relationships and greater long-term success for our clients.

That said, there are perks to placing large orders. Let’s explore how bigger orders can benefit your business.

Orders Over $10,000 Subtotal Qualify for a 10% Discount

Cutting Edge automatically applies a 10% discount if your cabinet door order exceeds a subtotal of $10,000.

We can offer this discount because larger orders tend to move more efficiently through our production line. With fewer changeovers and less material handling per unit, we save time, allowing us to pass those savings back to you. It’s also more efficient from a customer service and shipping perspective, helping us to serve you faster and more cost-effectively.

But that’s not the only benefit to ordering more cabinet doors.

Orders Over $1,000 Subtotal Qualify for Reduced Shipping Costs

Shipping costs can be a deciding factor in whether a small job stays profitable. To help with that, any order with a subtotal over $1,000 automatically qualifies for reduced shipping rates under our current shipping policy.

Shipments to standard destinations under our shipping policy may qualify for free shipping if your order subtotal is over $1,000. We do this to help offset the cost of logistics and make it more feasible for you to consolidate smaller projects into fewer deliveries.

We’ll still ship your order even if it’s less than $1,000. However, shipping may be more costly – we’ll always provide a shipping quote before you finalize your order.

However, Cutting Edge Does Have Other Minimums

Although we don’t require you to order a minimum number of doors, we do have some baseline requirements related to how we price and ship them. These requirements help our team maintain clear, fair pricing and accurate freight estimates.

Each Cabinet Door Has a Minimum Square Footage for Pricing Purposes

At Cutting Edge, most cabinet doors are priced based on a minimum of 1.5 square feet per piece, even if the actual square footage is less than 1.5.

For example, a 12” x 6” drawer front is just 0.5 square feet. But for pricing purposes, it will be billed at the 1.5 sq ft minimum.

Why? Because even small doors require setup, material handling, and finishing. There is minimal difference in production effort between a 12” x 6” drawer and a 12” x 18” door (which is 1.5 sq ft). Pricing them the same allows us to stay consistent and efficient.

This doesn’t affect the size of what you can order; only the way pricing is calculated. Understanding this helps you better estimate your project costs and avoid surprises when quoting clients.

Shipping Costs for Small Cabinet Door Orders May Be More Expensive

Even though you can order a single door, it’s worth noting that shipping costs don’t scale down linearly. A small order still requires packaging and transport. In some cases, it costs nearly as much to ship one door as it does to ship ten.

The biggest cost jumps occur when doors are over 40” in width or length. These cannot be shipped via regular carriers such as Purolator. Instead, they require LTL shipping, which starts at around $125 and can increase depending on your location.

This is why we often recommend combining small orders when possible. It’s not a rule, just a helpful way to reduce overall project costs while still taking advantage of our no-minimum policy.

Crown Moulding Orders Under 80’ Have A Setup Fee

A $150 setup fee will apply to your order if you’re ordering less than 80 linear feet of a single crown moulding profile. That’s because every run, no matter how small, requires a full machine setup. Each setup includes changing the blades, aligning the profile, and running test pieces to ensure the moulding is accurate and clean. Setting up a crown moulding profile takes 30 to 60 minutes.

To avoid the fee, you can:

  • Order 80 feet or more of any one profile
  • Combine wood species within the same profile to meet the 80’ minimum
  • Ask our team to run your order with other orders for the same profile

This is one of the few fixed charges we have in place, and it exists because of the cost of preparing to produce the moulding.
