Olon Industries Developed and Trademarked the NEXGEN™ Product Line
The NEXGEN™ product line was developed and trademarked by Olon Industries Inc. This unique product offers cost-effective durability and stability without reducing the quality.
Olon Industries Inc. typically partners with other companies, like Tafisa® and Uniboard®. Each of the companies they partner with brings unique decorative wraps to the table. In these partnerships, Olon Industries provides the materials for the stiles and rails of the doors, while the partner company provides the material for the centre panels.
However, Tafisa has recently developed a similar product, their Karisma® collection. Tafisa provides all the materials for their Karisma collection, which means this product line has unique profile options.
Cutting Edge Offers NEXGEN Cabinet Doors in Five Profiles
So, let’s start by looking at the profile options for the Tafisa Karisma collection. The Karisma product line has three profiles: Alpha, Beta, and Gamma.
The Alpha Profile by Tafisa Karisma
The Alpha profile by Tafisa Karisma is a typical 90-degree shaker profile. This is a popular profile option because it closely mimics shaker cabinet doors.
Our suppliers keep the material for this profile option in stock, meaning the lead time for orders in the Alpha profile is approximately 12-20 working days.
The Beta Profile by Tafisa Karisma
The Beta profile by Tafisa Karisma is a stepped chamfer profile. The chamfer profile adds character to the cabinet doors.
Our suppliers no longer keep the material for this profile option in stock. Lead time for orders in the Beta profile is at least 21 working days, depending on how long it takes for the stock to arrive at our supplier.
The Gamma Profile by Tafisa Karisma
The Gamma profile by Tafisa Karisma is a slim shaker profile. This is one of the few slim shaker profiles for NEXGEN cabinet doors.
Our suppliers stock this material; the lead time for orders in the Gamma profile is approximately 12-20 working days.
Now, let’s look at the profile options Olon Industries offers.
The Shaker Profile by Olon Industries
Like the Alpha profile by Tafisa Karisma, the Shaker profile by Olon Industries is a 90-degree shaker profile. However, Olon’s shaker profile has radiused edges and is slightly deeper than the Alpha profile.
Lead time for this profile option is approximately 7-12 working days, providing Cutting Edge has sufficient material in stock to complete your order.
The Chamfer Profile by Olon Industries
The Chamfer profile by Olon Industries is a typical chamfer. Unlike the Beta profile by Tafisa Karisma, this profile does not have a step down to the chamfer.
As long as Cutting Edge has enough material in stock to complete your order, the lead time for orders in the Chamfer profile is approximately 7-12 working days.
Cutting Edge Offers Two Assembly Methods for NEXGEN Cabinet Doors
Now that you understand your profile options, it’s time for you to learn about the assembly options.
Mitered NEXGEN Cabinet Doors
The majority of NEXGEN cabinet doors produced at Cutting Edge are mitered cabinet doors. The mitered joint is at a 45-degree angle.
Cutting Edge recommends the mitered door style for several reasons.
- The mitered joint has more glue surface area, thanks to the mortise and tenon joint. The extra glue surface area means the mitered joint is more stable.
- Unlike a cope-and-stick NEXGEN cabinet door, mitered NEXGEN doors do not require edge tape around the exterior of the cabinet door. Instead, the original decorative wrap is left intact.
- You can choose any profile with a mitered construction.
Cope and Stick NEXGEN Cabinet Doors
Cope and stick NEXGEN cabinet doors mimic the typical wood door construction method, with full-height stiles meeting rails at a 90-degree joint.
However, the cope and stick construction method has three major drawbacks.
- You can only choose Alpha or Shaker profiles with a cope and stick construction. The other profile options (Beta, Gamma, and Chamfer) are too complex to offer with a cope and stick joint.
- The cope and stick method exposes raw MDF at the ends of the stiles. To hide the raw MDF, our team has to apply matching edge tape to the exterior edges. The edge tape can add a visible line around the NEXGEN cabinet doors, distracting the eye.
- The cope and stick joint has less surface area for glue, compromising the stability of the door.
