NEXGEN™ Cabinet Doors Are a Prefinished Product

Olon Industries Inc. began developing NEXGEN™ products in the early 2000s but didn’t trademark the product line until 2016. Their product has an MDF core with a TFL or laminate decorative wrap on the exterior.

NEXGEN Products Come from Three Main Suppliers

Three suppliers collaborate to produce NEXGEN products: Olon Industries Inc., Tafisa®, and Uniboard®.

Olon Industries developed NEXGEN products and still supplies the stile and rail material for most colours. However, all three of these suppliers have developed colour ranges and collections with unique characteristics.

Each supplier prices their products differently. In addition, each supplier has multiple collections with different pricing. Focusing on one supplier or similar collections helps us to provide you with the most helpful information.

In this article, you will learn about the Aura®, Brushed Elm®, Riviera Oak®, and Sequoia® collections by Uniboard.

The NEXGEN Products by Uniboard Mimic Wood at a Low Price

The team at Uniboard is highly focused on accurately mimicking wood. By developing their products with specific textures, colour variation, and accurate wood grains, they have achieved some very realistic options. Even with this intense attention to detail, their products are on the low end of the price range.

You might assume this means NEXGEN cabinet doors in Uniboard colours are a cheap or low-quality option. However, NEXGEN doors are uniquely durable thanks to the construction method developed by Olon Industries.

The MDF core provides stability. Unlike wood, MDF has little inclination to move (warp, twist, shrink or expand) over time. This lack of movement helps prevent damage to your cabinet doors.

The decorative wrap around the exterior of the MDF core provides a host of benefits. First and foremost, it eliminates the need for an expensive finish. It also gives heat-, scratch-, and fade-resistance.

These attributes together make NEXGEN doors both durable and cost-effective.

Characteristics of NEXGEN Cabinet Doors in Uniboard Colours

Uniboard has developed products that have three unique attributes.

Realistically Mimic Wood Cabinet Doors

Thanks to their attention to detail, the products developed by Uniboard mimic wood accurately. It is difficult to distinguish their NEXGEN products from real wood until you are close enough to touch the material.

This accuracy allows customers to choose a cabinet door that looks like wood for a much lower cost. Because NEXGEN doors aren’t wood and don’t need finishing, they are approximately half the price of comparable wood doors.

Variety of Textures

You and your customers can choose from textures ranging from almost smooth (the Aura and Brushed Elm collections) to visible texture (the Sequoia collection).

While the smoother textures are easier to clean, the visible texture adds depth and realism to the products. Customers who want their kitchen to appear like wood will likely choose a textured product. But, the smoother options work better for projects that require frequent cleaning.

Lower Price Point Than Other Options

Despite the quality and attention to detail shown in the Uniboard product range, they have achieved a lower price than the wood grain options offered by Tafisa® – about $3 per square foot less. This affordability makes their products easier to sell and more desirable for large projects with tight budgets.

When You Should Choose NEXGEN Cabinet Doors in Uniboard Colours

You might wonder when NEXGEN cabinet doors are a good choice for your customers. Are there times when you should suggest NEXGEN doors?

Yes, there are.

NEXGEN is an excellent alternative if your customer wants wood cabinet doors but doesn’t have the budget to afford them. NEXGEN cabinet doors also work well for tight-budget projects that require high-quality cabinet doors or high-use areas.

However, NEXGEN cabinet doors aren’t always the best choice.

Some customers object to the MDF used in the core because it is a composite product that can emit formaldehyde. Although all MDF products sold in Canada comply with the relevant regulations, some customers prefer to avoid that risk entirely.

As well, NEXGEN is not real wood, and you will come across some customers set on having solid wood doors. If you sell these customers a NEXGEN kitchen, they won’t be happy in the long run.
