NEXGEN™ Cabinet Doors Are a Prefinished Product

In 2016, Olon Industries Inc. developed and trademarked the first NEXGEN™ products. NEXGEN products are a cost-effective alternative to five-piece wood cabinet doors.

Although additional suppliers now produce options similar to the NEXGEN products made by Olon, they each have the construction method in common. NEXGEN products have a laminate or TFL wrap formed around a shaped MDF core.

This construction method allows cabinet door manufacturers to turn the raw products into cabinet doors that accurately mimic the construction of five-piece cabinet doors.

Thanks to the MDF core and laminate or TFL wrap, NEXGEN doors are cost-effective, durable and stable. These characteristics make NEXGEN products an excellent choice for low-budget projects and high-use areas.

Why the Supplier and Collection Matters

You might wonder why we provide information about one specific option of NEXGEN doors in this article. Wouldn’t it make more sense to explain the characteristics of each collection at the same time?

The trick is that each supplier has different pricing and multiple collections. Each of their collections has different characteristics and pricing.

Discussing one collection (or similar collections) at a time helps us provide you with the most accurate and helpful information.

Velour Touch Nexgen Cabinet Doors Mimic Painted Doors

Now, let’s dive into the Velour Touch™ collection. Olon Industries Inc. developed the Velour Touch collection in 2020 to capture some of the market for painted cabinet doors.

Although most other NEXGEN collections mimic wood with patterns and textures, the Velour Touch collection mimics painted doors. With 12 solid colours in a matte finish, Olon covers the gamut of popular paint colours.

Characteristics of Velour Touch Nexgen Cabinet Doors

You already know that Velour Touch doors mimic painted doors. But what else should you know about the Velour Touch products?

The Soft-Touch Matte Finish Is Fingerprint-Resistant

One of the main problems with prefinished products that mimic painted doors is their tendency to show fingerprints. You know what we mean if you have ever worked with high-gloss or matte doors. Just one quick touch leaves a highly noticeable fingerprint behind.

This is a real pain when you are installing the cabinet doors. You have to be careful to avoid leaving fingerprints or clean all the cabinet doors after installation.

In addition, your customers then have to worry about keeping fingerprints off their cabinet doors.

Olon Industries has reduced the impact of this problem with the fingerprint-resistant finish of the Velour Touch colours.

Heat-, Scratch- And Fade-Resistant

Olon Industries has taken pains to make its products as durable as possible. The laminate and TFL wraps they use are heat-, scratch- and fade-resistant.

These attributes work together to reduce your costs and eliminate hassle.

With the heat and scratch resistance, NEXGEN cabinet doors are extremely difficult to damage under everyday use. This durability reduces the amount of cabinet doors you need to replace.

If you need to replace a door, the fade-resistant wrap means the current doors will be the same colour as the new doors.

Remember how, when you replace a painted door, you have to get a custom paint match because the paint has aged? Olon’s Velour Touch collection eliminates this issue.

More Stable Than Painted Cabinet Doors

The majority of painted doors have a solid wood frame. Solid wood tends to move (warp, twist, shrink or expand) over time.

Unlike painted doors, NEXGEN cabinet doors have an MDF core. MDF is much less likely to move over time. And, even if the MDF does move, it won’t damage the wrap.

More Cost-Effective Than Painted Cabinet Doors

And finally, the price tag. A typical painted door costs around $50 per square foot. Painted doors don’t stand a chance compared to a NEXGEN cabinet door in a Velour Touch colour, which costs approximately $25 per square foot.

When You Should (Or Should Not) Choose Velour Touch Doors

If you do decide to sell Velour Touch cabinet doors, you should keep in mind that there are times when they are not the right choice. But first, let’s look at when they are a good option.

Velour Touch NEXGEN cabinet doors are an excellent choice for low-budget projects that require an alternative to painted doors or high-use areas.

However, if your customer specifically wants painted cabinet doors, you should not substitute NEXGEN cabinet doors without their permission. Although they look very similar to painted doors, NEXGEN doors are not the same thing.
