Which Paint Colours Can You Choose For Your Painted Cabinet Doors?

Cutting Edge can match any Benjamin Moore paint colour for painted cabinet doors. These are our standard options because our paint supplier has Benjamin Moore paint chips on hand. We can also match colours from other brands or physical samples. There is currently no extra charge for a custom paint match, but the process usually adds about two weeks.

You’re planning to order painted cabinet doors, but first you need to choose a colour. What colours can you pick? Do you have to use a certain paint brand? What if you or your customer has already chosen a colour from another company?

At Cutting Edge Doors & Woodworking in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, we have offered painted cabinet doors for more than 20 years. Today, our paint supplier can match any Benjamin Moore colour, making these our standard paint colour options. Around 85% of the painted doors we produce use Benjamin Moore colours. However, we have also worked with colours from other brands and custom samples when a standard option doesn’t meet a project’s needs. Through this experience, we have learned when colour matching is simple and when you need to allow more time.

Which Paint Colours Cutting Edge Can Match For Painted Cabinet Doors

You can order painted cabinet doors from Cutting Edge in any Benjamin Moore paint colour. You are not limited to a small group of whites, greys, or popular colours. If Benjamin Moore offers the colour, our paint supplier can match it for your doors.

This flexibility lets you choose a colour based on your project’s needs rather than a limited list of available finishes. Your customer may want a warm white kitchen, dark green cabinets, a blue island, or a bold vanity. As long as you provide the correct Benjamin Moore colour information, our supplier can match it.

A deck of paint colours fanned out. Cutting Edge can offer painted cabinet doors in any of the paint colours Benjamin Moore offers.

Why Are Benjamin Moore Paint Colours Our Standard Option?

Benjamin Moore colours are our standard options because our paint supplier already has the paint chips needed to match them.

The supplier scans the paint chip to determine which dyes are needed and how much of each dye to use. They then use that formula to create the matching finish for your painted doors. However, we do not apply Benjamin Moore wall paint to your cabinet doors. Instead, our supplier adds dyes to the Matador™ Topcoat by AcromaPro™ that we use for painted cabinet doors.

Can Cutting Edge Match Other Paint Colours For Painted Cabinet Doors?

Yes. Cutting Edge can match colours outside the Benjamin Moore collection, although the process requires a few extra steps.

The colour itself is not usually the difficult part. Once our supplier has an accurate physical sample, they can scan it to determine the dyes and amounts needed to reproduce the colour. The challenge is getting that sample to them. Our supplier already has Benjamin Moore paint chips, but they may not have chips from every other paint company.

As a result, providing only the name or code of another brand’s colour may not be enough. You may need to send us a physical sample that our supplier can scan.

What Can You Send For A Custom Paint Colour Match?

Depending on your project, you may be able to provide:

  • A physical paint chip
  • A sample painted in the required colour
  • A piece of an existing finished product you need to match

The important part is giving our supplier an accurate physical colour to scan. Any one of the three options above will work. However, sending a can of paint does not work because the final colour can vary depending on the application method.

If you already know you need a custom colour, start this process early. Doing so gives you time to complete the match and approve the sample without putting unnecessary pressure on your installation date.

Does Cutting Edge Charge Extra For A Custom Paint Match?

As of September 2026, Cutting Edge does not charge an additional fee for a custom paint match. This is because the matching process itself is fairly simple once our supplier receives the sample. They scan the colour to determine which dyes (and how much) are required.

Although there is no added matching fee, you should consider the time it takes to get a match. In addition, you will have to pay to ship a sample to Cutting Edge.

Why Does A Custom Paint Colour Match Add About Two Weeks?

A custom paint colour match usually adds about two weeks, with much of that time coming from shipping and sample approval rather than the colour scan itself.

First, you send your colour sample to Cutting Edge. We then send it to our paint supplier to create the matching paint. Once we receive the paint, our team produces a finished sample and sends it back to you. You can then compare the sample with your project and approve the colour before your doors move forward.

Each step is straightforward, but transit time adds up. For this reason, you should plan for about two extra weeks when choosing a custom colour.

What If Your Painted Cabinet Doors Need To Match An Existing Colour?

Matching existing cabinetry requires more care than choosing a colour for a new project.

For example, you may be replacing the doors in a kitchen where your customer knows the original Benjamin Moore colour. Ordering the same colour code seems like the obvious solution, but there is no guarantee that the new finish will look identical to an older surface.

Several factors can change the appearance of existing cabinets over time. Light, cleaning, wear, and age can all affect the finish. The material and type of finish can also change how you see the colour. In these situations, a physical sample of the existing finish may give our supplier a better reference than the original colour code. Instead of matching what the cabinets looked like when they were new, the supplier can work from what they look like today.

You should also avoid approving an important colour based only on a phone or computer screen. Screens display colours differently, while the lighting in the finished room can change how the colour appears.

If an exact match matters, use a physical sample whenever possible.
