Technical Specs For Edge Banding From Cutting Edge
Discover the edge banding specs for slab components, including glue types, size limits, materials, quality checks, and lead times.

If edge banding has ever delayed your install, you know how much it can cost you. From rough edges to visible glue lines, sloppy finishing work can harm your timeline and reputation. Every contractor and cabinet maker has felt the pressure of trying to keep a project on schedule, only to get held up by something as small as an unfinished slab.
At Cutting Edge, we’ve helped thousands of contractors finish their projects on time. Last year alone, we produced over 3,000 components that required edge banding. This article will guide you through the exact technical specifications you need to know before ordering edge-banded products from us, ensuring there are no surprises later.
In this article, you’ll learn about the edge banding specs and standards, including:
- Information about the edge bander Cutting Edge uses
- Glue types and glue line visibility
- Minimum and maximum sizes we support
- Edging materials and compatible components
- Answers to other frequently asked questions
Let’s dive in.
Cutting Edge Offers Edge Banding On Multiple Products
At Cutting Edge, all of our edgebanding is done using the Jade 240 from Biesse. It is a commercial-grade machine known for delivering consistent, high-quality results. It’s designed to handle demanding workloads with precision, which allows us to produce clean edges on everything from small custom pieces to large production runs.

We’ve set it up to work with a wide range of materials and component types, including:
- Slab doors
- Textured melamine
- High gloss
- Matte
- Wood veneer
- Floating shelves
- Wall bed doors
- NEXGEN cope and stick doors
Our experienced operators process and inspect every piece for quality before it leaves the shop, so your components arrive install-ready, every time.
The glue we use plays a major role in that finish, so let’s take a look at how it works.
What Glue Types Does Cutting Edge Use for Edge Banding?
Our edgebander uses EVA glue, which is perfect for most standard cabinet components. It sets quickly and provides a strong, reliable hold, which is ideal for slabs, floating shelves, drawer fronts, and more.
You can request PUR glue for projects where moisture or heat is a concern (like bathroom vanities or kitchens). PUR gives a stronger, more water-resistant bond.
Even though we don’t use a laser edgebander, the glue lines are barely visible – less than 0.2mm in width.

What Are the Minimum and Maximum Dimensions for Edge Banding?
Before submitting a cut list or finalizing a project design, you need to know whether your parts fall within the right size range for edge banding.
Our team can edge panels that are between 10mm and 60mm thick. Your panels can be as small as 150mm long and 85mm wide, and as large as 3200mm x 3200mm. Panel sizes are limited to the size of sheet goods available, which is typically 4’ by 8’.
If one side of the panel is at least 250mm, the other dimension can be as small as 50mm. This provides added flexibility when working with narrow or rectangular pieces, such as filler strips, toe kicks, or trim boards.
When it comes to the edge banding itself, most projects use 1mm veneer banding. However, you can request thinner or thicker depending on the material and design. Wood edging can range from 0.5mm to 3mm, and solid wood edging is available between 3mm and 8mm, depending on the species and stock.
If you’re ever unsure, send us your part dimensions, and our team can confirm if the components are possible.
Specification | Minimum | Maximum | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Panel Thickness | 10mm | 60mm | Slab doors are typically ¾” (19.05mm) thick |
Panel Length | 150mm | 3200mm | Most sheet goods are 8’ long (2438.4mm) |
Panel Width | 85mm (or 50mm if paired with 250mm side) | 3200mm | Most sheet goods are 8’ long (2438.4mm) |
Edge Banding (Wood) | 0.5mm | 3mm | Standard is typically 1 mm |
Edge Banding (Solid Wood) | 3mm | 8mm | Depends on wood species and stock availability |
What Materials Does Cutting Edge Offer Edge Banding For?
When planning a project, you need to know which materials your supplier can edge without damage, inconsistency, or delays. Not all surfaces respond the same to edge banding, especially when it comes to high-gloss or textured panels.
At Cutting Edge, the materials we work with most often include:
- High-gloss slabs
- Textured melamine slabs
- Matte TFL slabs
- Wood veneer slabs
We also edge band components like:
- Floating shelves
- Wall bed doors
- NEXGEN cope and stick doors
You should confirm availability with your supplier if you’re working with a product not included on this list, such as ultra-soft laminates, curved profiles, or uncommonly thick panels.
The goal is to help you avoid surprises and reworks, so your install stays on track.
What Else Should You Know About Edge Banding at Cutting Edge?
It’s the small things, such as labelling, sorting, and packaging, that often make the biggest difference on install day. Here are a few final details to keep in mind:
Can Cutting Edge Edge Band Curved Or Contoured Parts?
No. We only edge flat, straight-edged components. Curved, arched, or angled parts aren’t compatible with our setup.
Can you edge band high-gloss or matte Slab Doors?
Yes. Our process is designed for sensitive materials like high-gloss and matte finishes. In addition, we inspect each part before it ships.
Can You Provide Your Own Edge Banding Material?
We can accept customer-supplied edge banding if required. However, we encourage you to choose from our sourced material if possible, as this helps our team manage colour-matching, stock availability, and turnaround times more efficiently. We source edging from multiple trusted suppliers to give you the best possible combination of price and lead time.
Will Your Edge Banded Parts Arrive Labelled Or Sorted By Room?
Generally, we package your orders to maximize space and protection, not to follow room layout or cabinet order.
However, we will apply cabinet number stickers to the back of each part if you’ve ordered sequence-matched or grain-matched parts. If you have specific packing requirements, notify us when placing your order, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your request.
Do Edge Banded Components Go Through A Quality Inspection?
Yes – every piece goes through a thorough quality inspection. Among other things, our team checks to ensure:
- The size is accurate to within +/-0.79mm
- Each piece is square
- No items are warped or twisted
- The glue lines are clean and consistent
If something’s off, we reject it internally and remake it before your order ships.

How Long Does It Take To Get Edge Banded Parts From Cutting Edge?
If your chosen material is in stock, most orders for edge banded slabs are shipped within 8–10 working days.
However, lead times can extend to 4-6 weeks if the material is not in stock or your parts require finishing. Our team will provide a clear estimate up front so you can plan accordingly.
Make Edge Banding One Less Thing You Have To Worry About
Edge banding is just one step in a larger project, but when it’s done wrong, it slows everything down. You shouldn’t have to spend time fixing glue lines, relabeling parts, or reordering pieces that arrived damaged.
At Cutting Edge, our goal is to provide clean, consistent results to help you complete the job on time and move on to what’s next. For now, learn how to price out edge banded slabs online.
