Lead Time for Raised Panel Cabinet Doors From Cutting Edge
Most raised panel cabinet doors from Cutting Edge ship within 10-15 days. Delayed payment, remakes and other problems can cause delays.
As a contractor or cabinet maker, your profits depend on your reputation. A poor reputation means you have lower profit because you struggle to bring on new customers, while a good reputation means more customers come your way, and you can afford to charge a little more. The problem is your cabinet door supplier directly affects your reputation. If your cabinet doors continually arrive late, you won’t be able to keep your customers happy.
At Cutting Edge, we’ve produced raised panel cabinet doors for over 20 years. We understand just how important it is to ship your orders on time. If we don’t uphold our promises, you can’t uphold yours.
However, you came here to learn about Cutting Edge’s lead time for raised panel cabinet doors. Keep reading to find:
Most Raised Panel Cabinet Doors Ship Within 7-12 Working Days
When you order raised panel cabinet doors from Cutting Edge, you can expect them to ship within 7-12 working days most of the time. The lead time begins when you confirm and pay for your order and does not allow for weekends or statutory holidays.
We say 7-12 working days most of the time because, depending on the options you choose, your cabinet doors may take longer.
Three Factors Extend the Lead Time for Raised Panel Doors
Three options may extend the lead time for your cabinet doors:
1. Construction Method
Cutting Edge produces two kinds of raised panel cabinet doors: mitred and cope and stick.
The cope and stick construction method is simpler and thus takes less time. When you choose the cope and stick construction, your raised panel doors will take around 7-10 working days.
On the other hand, the mitred construction option is more complex and detailed. These profiles take more work and require closer attention to detail. So, when you order mitred raised panel cabinet doors, your order may take up to 12 working days.
2. Custom Details
But that’s not all.
Your lead time will extend if you add custom details or pieces, like decorative end panels or mullion frames.
Again, these are complex, highly detailed pieces. Our team spends a lot of time fitting and building custom pieces to ensure they are high-quality.
The lead time may extend by one or two days up to several weeks, depending on the complexity of the custom pieces.
A decorative end panel is less complex; it would add one or two working days to your lead time. Something like a custom range hood is very complex, so it could take several weeks to complete.
3. Finishing
And finally, you can choose to add finishing to your cabinet doors.
If you order raw raised panel doors, your lead time is within the 7-12 working day range. But, if you add a finish (paint, stain, or lacquer), your lead time will extend to around 4-6 weeks.
The lead time stretches out for finished pieces because our team has to:
- Spend more time on your order,
- Wait for the finishing materials to arrive,
- Perform a second quality inspection and
- Create a finished sample for approval if required.
These are planned delays, accounted for when Cutting Edge schedules your order. But what happens when the unexpected occurs? And, for that matter, what are those potential problems?
Potential Problems May Delay Your Cabinet Doors
Three potential problems may occur while your order is in production; any of these issues could delay your cabinet doors.
1. Waiting for Confirmation or Payment
First and most commonly, your order may encounter a delay because our team doesn’t have the necessary paperwork or payment to put your order in production.
This problem often occurs when you are new to ordering from our company. You may not realize that we require a signed confirmation and payment before we can proceed with your order.
However, you might miss (or not receive) the emails requesting payment or confirmation.
So why does Cutting Edge have such strict requirements?
We need to ensure that you want us to produce your order and that everything is correct – that’s why we require a signed confirmation. As for the payment, we require that commitment from you because we produce completely custom cabinet doors. We can’t reuse them if you change your mind and back out.
Regardless, we understand you are busy, and emails sometimes slip through the cracks. That’s why you can expect a phone call from our team if we still require payment or confirmation within 2-3 days of your placing the order.
2. Running Out of Material
Our factory is in Maple Creek, a relatively remote location, about four hours from any lumber suppliers. So, unlike cabinet door manufacturers in larger cities, running next door to purchase some more lumber isn’t an option.
To help prevent delays, we keep a minimum quantity of common lumber types in stock.
However, your order might run behind schedule if:
- The material in stock is of poor quality,
- Our team missed ordering the custom lumber your order requires
- The material we ordered didn’t arrive, or
- Our weekly restocking shipment arrives late.
3. Waiting for Internal Remakes
We all know what happens when you receive a defective piece – you reorder it. So, our team aims to catch most defects before your order leaves our facility.
Sometimes, we don’t notice a defect until the last minute, and there isn’t enough time to get the replacement piece ready and still achieve your original shipping date.
In this case, we will delay your order by a day so we have enough time to make a new piece.
To help avoid this last-minute delay, our team begins locating all the pieces of your order at least 24 hours in advance. This usually gives us enough time to produce any replacement pieces without delaying your shipment.
Now, what happens when a delay does occur?
Cutting Edge Notifies You When Your Cabinet Doors Are Delayed
Whenever our team has to delay your order, we will send you a notification email with a new shipping date.
As soon as your order encounters a delay, our production team provides the customer service team with a new estimated shipping date. Our customer service team then passes that information on to you via email.
This system isn’t foolproof. About once a month, we have an order that has extremely bad luck and encounters several delays, one or two days apart. In this case, you would receive a new shipping date every time your order gets bumped back.
We understand this isn’t an ideal solution. However, you are at least aware that your order is running behind instead of being blindsided when your order doesn’t arrive.
You Can Order Rush Cabinet Doors for a Quicker Lead Time
Now, we all know that working in the woodworking and cabinetry industries means your customers are constantly pushing the limits and asking for their orders sooner.
Whether your customer needs to put their house on the market or you need to turn over possession by a specific date – whatever the reason, it boils down to this:
You need your cabinet doors sooner.
What can you do?
At Cutting Edge, we offer high-priority rush orders. You tell our team when you need your cabinet doors to ship. We put your order in production. If we meet your requested shipping date, we charge an additional 10% of the subtotal or $25, whichever is greater. However, we don’t charge anything extra if we miss the shipping date.
