When you order cabinet doors, the quality of the product can make or break your project. But how can you ensure that the cabinet doors you receive meet your high standards? Poor-quality cabinet doors can delay installation, harm your reputation, and frustrate your customers. This is a risk no contractor can afford.
At Cutting Edge, we understand these challenges. For over 20 years, we’ve committed to delivering high-quality cabinet doors by following a strict quality inspection process. This process ensures that every door meets exacting standards before leaving our facility.
In this article, you’ll learn:
High-Quality Cabinet Doors Prevent Unhappy Customers
High-quality cabinet doors are essential for any project because your reputation is on the line. Doors with scratches, incorrect measurements, or other unacceptable defects can result in:
- Project Delays. Time spent waiting for replacement doors can push your deadlines back.
- Unhappy Customers. Your clients expect perfection, and poor materials lead to frustration.
- Damage to Your Reputation. Every project affects your standing. Low-quality results can harm the trust you’ve built with customers.
Ensuring consistent quality is crucial to meeting deadlines and keeping your customers happy. That’s why Cutting Edge maintains high standards throughout the manufacturing process, ending with a thorough quality inspection.
The Cutting Edge Quality Inspection for Cabinet Doors
Every cabinet door Cutting Edge produces goes through a meticulous inspection before it’s packed and shipped. Our Quality Assurance (QA) team follows a comprehensive checklist to verify every detail of each door.
Here’s how we ensure your doors meet the highest standards:
1. Verify the Order Information
The inspection starts with the order paper, which includes:
- Wood type
- Inside and outside profiles
- Panel profiles
- Stile and rail widths
- Any custom details
Our QA specialist carefully reviews the order, double-checking any custom requests or special instructions in the comments section before moving forward.
2. Inspect the Cabinet Doors for Accuracy
Next, we inspect each door to ensure:
- The profiles match the order.
- The wood type and design are correct.
- Any hinge drilling, applied molding, or finishing has been completed as specified.
- Any centre rails or centre stiles are placed in the correct position.
- The door matches any custom drawings or details you provided.
This step guarantees you receive exactly what you ordered.
3. Examine the Door for Defects
Our QA team uses inspection lights to check each door at multiple angles, looking for:
- Scratches, dents, or other marks
- Glue residue
- Jagged edges or splinters
We also feel each profile with a bare finger to detect any imperfections that could be missed visually. If anything feels rough or catches the skin, the door is sent back for rework. We aim to send no item that could cause injury to you, the customer or the installer.
4. Check for Warping
Warped doors are difficult to install and can affect both function and appearance. To prevent this, we place each door on a ProTable – a perfectly flat measuring table. Then, if the door isn’t flush with the table, we slide a plastic stick that is 3/32” thick along the edges of the doors. Our tolerance for warp on doors less than 32” high is 3/32”, so if this measuring stick can slip between the door and the table, we reject the door.
5. Verify the Dimensions
Accurate outside dimensions are critical. Using the ProTable, which is essentially a large calliper, we measure the door’s width and height. Then, we rotate the door 180 degrees to check the opposite edges. We record the worst measurements to ensure the door meets all requirements.
Cabinet doors can be up to 1mm under or oversized; this is the maximum accuracy of the machinery we use in our production line.
6. Signing Off on the Order
After all the doors in an order have passed inspection, the QA team signs the order form to confirm that every door is perfect. If the form isn’t signed, the packing team returns the doors for reinspection. This final step ensures accountability and affirms that only flawless doors move forward for packing and shipping.
What Happens When a Cabinet Door Fails the Quality Inspection
If a cabinet door doesn’t meet our high standards at any point, our team immediately rejects it and sends it back for remaking. At Cutting Edge, we prioritize speed and quality for remakes, ensuring minimal delays for your project.
Remakes are processed on a rush basis to keep your installation schedule on track, so you can avoid unnecessary delays even if an issue arises during the final inspection.
