Standard Specs For 5-Piece Melamine Cabinet Doors
Updated March 2, 2026
Learn the standard specifications for 5-piece melamine cabinet doors, including NEXGEN® products, so you can avoid delays and mistakes.
When you order melamine cabinet doors, you expect them to arrive exactly as planned. However, you can encounter delays, design limitations or surprises if you assume every supplier builds them the same way. Are the stile widths fixed? Can you add a centre rail? Do they come pre-drilled for hinges? Missing these details can slow your project and put your reputation at risk.
At Cutting Edge, we believe clear specifications prevent costly mistakes. Our 5-piece melamine door line (which includes NEXGEN® cabinet doors by Olon Industries) uses consistent, well-defined standards. When you understand those rules, you can quote with confidence and avoid changes later.
In this article, you’ll learn:
- Standard profiles and dimensions
- Stock availability and colour options
- Customization limits
- Thickness
- Drilling details
- Panel grain direction
- When standard specifications apply
- Why it’s important to know these standards
By the end, you’ll understand the standard specifications for our 5-piece melamine cabinet doors.
The Standard Specifications for 5-Piece Melamine Cabinet Doors
Before you finish a design, it’s important to understand the fixed standards that apply to our 5-piece melamine cabinet doors. These specifications create consistency across every order. Unless otherwise noted on your quote, the following standards apply.
Standard Stile And Rail Widths For 5-Piece Melamine Doors
Each profile in our 5-piece melamine cabinet door program has fixed stile and rail dimensions. Changing the door size or colour does not affect these measurements.
- Chamfer and Shaker profiles have 2 ¼″ stiles and rails and are available in NEXGEN and VelourTouch® finishes.
- Delta, Zeta, and Kappa profiles are only available in Tafisa Karisma™ colours. Delta and Zeta have 2 ¼″ stiles and rails, while Kappa features ½″ stiles and rails.
Reduced rails, wider stiles, or custom width adjustments are unavailable within this program.
Stocked Colour Options For Melamine Cabinet Doors
Due to limited space, our team cannot stock every colour in every profile. The availability depends on the profile and collection you select.
Chamfer and Shaker profiles are available only in the NEXGEN and VelourTouch colours we stock. We do not bring in alternative colours or profiles.
Delta, Zeta, and Kappa profiles are only available in Tafisa Karisma colours. Since our supplier does not have minimum order quantities in place for Karisma products, these options offer greater flexibility and consistent availability.
To view the colours you can order, visit our melamine cabinet door colours gallery before finalizing your design.
We may be able to arrange alternative colours or profiles for projects that call for 2,000 or more cabinet doors. Contact our team for your options if your project meets this threshold and you can’t find what you’re looking for on our website.
No Centre Rail Option For 5-Piece Melamine Cabinet Doors
You cannot add a centre rail to any profile, door style, or finish within this door line, including NEXGEN and Tafisa Karisma options.
Because you can’t request a centre rail, try to avoid larger doors. Doors measuring 30″ wide or wider, or 43″ tall or taller, are not covered by warranty against warp or twist.
Limited Customization Options For 5-Piece Melamine Doors
This 5-piece melamine cabinet door program focuses on consistency and efficiency, which means you have limited customization options.
You cannot order the following in melamine cabinet doors:
- Mullion frames
- X-panel doors
- Angled cabinet doors
- Curved doors
- Doors with centre rails
- Doors with centre stiles
These limitations apply to all options, including NEXGEN, VelourTouch, and Tafisa Karisma.
Review your design before quoting. Consider a different door style if your project needs specialty or feature doors.
Standard Thicknesses For 5-Piece Melamine Cabinet Doors
Most 5-piece melamine cabinet doors in this program come in one standard thickness: ¾″ thick.
However, the Kappa profile, available in Tafisa Karisma colours, measures approximately 13/16″ thick.
Confirm that your hinge selection, overlay plans, and cabinets work with the thickness of the profile you choose.
Hinge Drilling for 5-Piece Melamine Cabinet Doors
5-piece melamine cabinet doors do not come pre-drilled for hinges by default.
However, you can request hinge drilling when placing your order. If you choose this option, you’ll need to confirm the following in advance to ensure accurate placement:
- Hinge type
- Hinge offset
- Hinge location
Standard Panel Grain Direction for 5-Piece Cabinet Doors
The panel grain direction is set by default to reduce errors.
- Cabinet doors come with a vertical grain centre panel
- Drawer fronts come with a horizontal grain centre panel
This layout creates a balanced, traditional look. If your design requires a different grain direction, request the change when placing your order.
When Do These Standard Specifications Apply?
These standard specifications apply to every 5-piece melamine cabinet door order unless you request otherwise.
Do not assume your supplier includes a feature, modification, or exception unless you see it on your quote. Confirm the vital details, such as hinge drilling or grain direction change, before production begins.
Clear communication protects your timeline. You reduce the risk of delays, revisions, or unexpected costs when you understand the standards upfront.
Why It’s Important to Understand These Standards
You avoid guesswork, assumptions, and misunderstandings by understanding the standards for 5-piece melamine cabinet doors. You know exactly what’s included, what isn’t, and where limitations apply.
That clarity helps you design within realistic constraints and set expectations with your client. Instead of reacting to surprises mid-project, you stay in control from the start.
Even small details (such as fixed stile widths, grain direction, or thickness) can create major delays when overlooked. Taking the time to review these standards protects your schedule, your margins, and your reputation.
When you build your project around defined specifications, you reduce revisions, avoid warranty concerns, and move forward with confidence.
