- Accessorial Charges -

Accessorial Charges Get Added While Cabinet Doors Are in Transit

Even if your order qualifies for free shipping, the carrier may apply additional fees known as accessorial charges. These charges depend on specific delivery requirements. Cutting Edge does not cover accessorial charges.

Shipping companies add accessorial charges for services beyond standard delivery. Some common examples are using a power tailgate, carrying packages in, or delivering to residential addresses. It’s difficult to estimate these costs in advance because shipping companies add these fees after they complete the delivery. Plus, accessorial charges often rely on a shipping company employee checking a box – so they don’t always apply.

To maintain transparent and accurate pricing, we invoice any accessorial charges applied to your shipment separately. We charge you the exact cost the carrier charged us – no markups, no profit.

Common Accessorial Charges and the Approximate Cost

The actual cost of accessorial charges can vary depending on the carrier used to deliver the shipment to your location. Below is a list of the most common accessorial charges with an estimated cost.

A call before delivery fee is applied when the company is requested to notify the receiver when a shipment will be delivered. The company will provide an estimated time range. The shipping company will also charge you a Delivery by Appointment fee if you request a specific delivery time during this notification call.

This fee is applied when the delivery driver has to carry a shipment from the truck to the building. The cost will increase depending on the weight of the shipment, at a rate of $7.40 per pound. The maximum charge for a carry-in delivery fee is $348.15.

A delivery-by-appointment charge is applied when a shipment has a specific delivery date and time requested.

All deliveries are allotted an average amount of time for unloading, usually 15 minutes. The shipping company will charge you this fee if you take longer than 15 minutes to unload the shipment. The charge will increase every additional 15-minute period the driver has to wait. For example, if it takes 45 minutes to unload a shipment, the fee will be at least $100.70.

This charge is applied when the delivery driver uses the liftgate at the back of the truck to deliver a shipment.

A re-consignment fee is applied when an address change or delivery location is changed once the shipment is in transit.

A re-delivery fee applies if there is no answer at the delivery location, the receiver asks the driver to deliver the shipment at another time, or the driver can’t reach the delivery location. This fee increases by $8.20 per pound to a maximum fee of $359.25.

This charge is applied when the delivery location is in a residential zoning area or is a gated/private residence.

This charge is applied when the delivery location is outside the nearest town limits.

Storage fees are charged when a shipment sits at a depot for more than 24 hours. This charge increases by $1.70 per pound and there is no maximum fee.

- Freight Damage -

What If Your Cabinet Doors Get Damaged In Transit?

Despite our best efforts to package your cabinet doors and other products securely and safely, damage can still occur in shipping.

If your shipment has visible damage, you must show the driver the damage and make sure they record the shipment as damaged. Our team requires pictures of the outside of the package(s) showing the damage. In addition, we need a picture of each damaged part as you open the shipment up. Our team requires these pictures and the sizes of any damaged parts within 24 hours.

Without this information, we may not cover damaged pieces under warranty because our team cannot submit a freight claim.

If your shipment has no visible damage on the exterior, but the parts are damaged, you must take pictures of the damaged parts. These pictures and the sizes of all damaged parts need to be sent to our team as soon as possible.

We will replace any freight-damaged parts as soon as possible. If our team files a freight claim, the replacement pieces will ship as soon as they are complete, regardless of the freight claim status.

- Standard Destinations -

Your Cabinet Doors Ship to Many Destinations Across Canada

Cutting Edge will cover the shipping costs if your location is one of our standard destinations and the subtotal is over $1000.

Below is a list of standard destinations for each province. If you don’t see your location on this list, we recommend you contact our team for an estimate of shipping costs to your location.

If your location is not on our standard destinations list and your order subtotal is over $1000, we will cover shipping costs up to $250. However, once your order is over the $2500 subtotal, we cover shipping costs up to 10% of your subtotal. For example, if your order subtotal is $3500, we cover shipping costs up to $350. If the shipping costs exceed the amount we cover, we will put the remaining costs on your invoice.

FAQs About Shipping Cabinet Doors, Drawer Boxes, and more

You may still have some questions about our freight policy. We will do our best to answer the frequently asked questions below. However, if you don’t see the information you are looking for, contact our team:

Phone: 1 (800) 267 6662

Email: orders@cuttingedgeinc.ca

We only ship orders using the carriers we have set up. If you want to use a different carrier, you must arrange the shipping and have the shipping company pick your order up from our shop. If you choose to arrange the shipping, please notify our team to confirm when your carrier will arrive at our shop. Your carrier can pick up shipments between 9:00 am and 11:00 am on weekdays.

While you can’t request any shipping company, you can request one of our standard shipping companies. If the shipping company you request is much more expensive than the option we recommend, we will charge you the additional shipping fees.

Small orders (less than 15 pieces and with no piece(s) longer than 36") ship by Canada Post, Purolator, or Loomis/DHL. Large orders (more than 15 pieces, or with a piece longer than 36") ship by Jay’s Transport or Manitoulin Transport. Our team will choose the shipping option based on your location, preference, and shipping costs.

Absolutely! Just let us know which orders you want us to ship together, and we’ll look after the rest.

Yes, you can request our team estimate the accessorial charges that might apply to your shipment. However, we can't guarantee an accurate estimate because accessorial charges are hard to predict.

One of the best ways to avoid accessorial charges is to choose to pick up your shipment from a nearby depot. However, storage fees can apply if you don’t pick up your shipment from the depot within 24 hours of their notification call. Storage fees are a minimum of $34.60/day.

Some other options are:

  • Ensure you have a forklift at your site and an operator available when you know a shipment has left our shop. We will notify you and provide a tracking number when your shipment leaves.
  • Make sure your delivery address is within a commercial zoning area.
  • Relay any changes to your delivery address to our team immediately.

We have to draw the line somewhere, so we require the subtotal to be over $1000. However, you could consider adding sample doors to your order to get over the $1000 threshold!

We cover the freight costs, not the accessorial charges. Any accessorial charges will get passed on to you on a separate invoice.

You can request our team consider adding your location to the standard destinations list. However, your requested location must meet a few requirements before we can make it a standard destination.

First, we must ship to that location frequently - at least two or three times a month. Without frequent shipments to your location, we cannot get a guaranteed freight rate from a shipping company.

Second, your destination must be near a route currently used by one of the shipping companies we use. If the location you request is off the beaten path, we cannot meet the third requirement.

Third, the guaranteed freight rate we receive from a shipping company must be no higher than $250 per average shipment.

We will add your location to the standard destinations list if it meets all three requirements.
