Warranty Coverage for Cabinet Doors
Cabinet Doors From Cutting Edge Have Limited Warranty Coverage
As a contractor or cabinet maker working to become a trusted installer and improve your reputation, you can’t risk selling low-quality products. Nor can you risk working with a supplier who doesn’t stand behind their work or whose warranty policy is unnecessarily complex.
At Cutting Edge, we understand that warranty coverage can make the difference between purchasing (or not purchasing) from a supplier. That’s why we have a detailed policy available online and do our best to make all replacement orders hassle-free for you and your customers.
On this page, you will find:
General Warranty Information
Some warranty specifications only apply to specific door styles or product types, while others apply across the board.
Cutting Edge team members work with every piece of wood to reveal and enhance its natural beauty. Because wood is a natural product, no two pieces are identical. While we match figure, colour, and grain as closely as possible, each piece of wood has unique characteristics. Our team considers these characteristics part of the distinguishing features of a natural product; we do not consider them a defect.
Cutting Edge warrants its products to be free of manufacturing defects for one year from the date they ship to you. The warranty covers warpage, delamination, replacement of defective products, and the cost of shipping the replacement products from Cutting Edge.
However, the warranty does not cover installation or removal, labour, travel time, additional products (such as paint), or damage to related products. Cutting Edge is not required to cover any extra costs incurred due to defective products.
After the product leaves Cutting Edge, defects preventable by the customer are not covered by warranty. Cutting Edge is not liable for damage caused by improper handling, cleaning, surface preparation, or storage.
The warranty coverage may extend beyond the one-year time frame if:
- The issue is a manufacturer defect, and
- The product is in a humidity- and temperature-controlled environment. Cutting Edge’s recommended humidity range is between 30-40%; the recommended temperature range is between 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit or 15.5-26.5 degrees Celsius.
Our team would appreciate receiving photos of the defects with any warranty request. Depending on the nature of the issue, you may need to send the defective pieces back before we produce the replacement parts.
Warranty Coverage for Specific Door Styles and Products
Different door styles have different warranty coverage. Below, you can find additional information for specific door styles.
- Doors less than 32” high can have a maximum warp of 3/32” (2.5mm). Any doors 32” high and higher can have a maximum warp of 3/16” (5mm).
- Doors less than 30” wide can have a maximum warp of 3/32” (2.5mm). Any doors 30″ wide and wider can have a maximum warp of 3/16” (5mm).
- Cutting Edge does not warranty against warp or twist on doors 43″ tall or taller without a center rail.
- Cutting Edge does not warranty against warp or twist on any doors 30” wide or wider without a center stile.
Cutting Edge does not warranty against warp or twist on any frame doors (open for glass) 30″ wide and wider without a center stile or 43″ high and higher without a center rail.
Cutting Edge does not warranty against warp or twist on any MDF doors (1pc MDF and 2pc MDF) 30″ wide and wider or 43″ high and higher.
Cutting Edge does not warranty against warp or twist on any mitered doors 30″ wide and wider or 43″ high and higher.
- Cutting Edge does not warranty against warp or twist on any NEXGEN doors 30” or wider or 43” or higher.
- NEXGEN cabinet doors may have visibly off-level joints. Cutting Edge does not consider this a defect as long as these joints are not off-level more than the approximate thickness of a piece of paper.
Cutting Edge does not warranty against warp, twist, expansion, or contraction of solid wood slabs, fluted doors, or slat doors over 16” across the grain or 32” with the grain. The construction method used for slab and fluted doors makes them unstable over those dimensions. The same warranty restriction applies to slat doors even though we use a different construction method.
- Spray-stain finishes may leave a shadow of unstained or lighter-stained wood along the panel next to the inside profile. The spray-on application of the stain causes this shadow; therefore, it is not warrantied.
- Solid wood panels expand and contract over time. As panels shrink, unfinished wood can be exposed; this is not warrantied.
- Hairline cracks along stile and rail joints (non-structural cracks that show through a painted finish over time) are not warrantied.
How To Avoid Order Problems Not Covered Under Warranty
Yes, there are many things Cutting Edge does not cover under warranty. Most of these are common sense items. Wood is a living product, and as such, is inherently unstable. Thus, we limit our warranty policy to match the size range and specifications we expect to remain stable without assistance. Products and sizes outside that range are more likely to experience problems like warping, twisting, and other defects.
In addition, there is plenty of opportunity for human error in the ordering process, whether yours or ours.
So, keep reading to find tips and tricks to avoid cabinet door problems that aren’t covered under warranty.
Confirming Your Order
If the Cutting Edge team enters your order, we send you a confirmation file for review. When you sign the confirmation, you agree that you reviewed the order confirmation and that all order details are correct. You must correct any errors before signing the confirmation. Once you sign the confirmation, mistakes are not warrantied.
Submitting an order online is considered an acknowledgement of the above statement and is equivalent to signing an order confirmation.
Receiving Your Order
Once you receive your order, inspect the shipment for damage. If there is visible damage on the exterior of the packaging, take pictures of the damage to the package and all the damaged pieces. Submit these pictures to our team within 24 hours so we can submit a freight claim.
We recommend leaving unfinished cabinet doors in the original packaging until within 24 hours of the time you are ready to finish them. Before you finish your cabinet doors, spend about two minutes per door on a quick inspection for damage and scuff sand them to remove marks from packing, transit, and unpacking.
DO NOT expose unfinished cabinet doors to humidity outside the recommended range (30-40%) or temperatures outside the recommended range (60-80 degrees Fahrenheit or 15.5-26.5 degrees Celsius.
