A variety of NEXGEN cabinet doors.

We have all been there. It is time to set up your new showroom, and you are deciding which products and cabinet doors to include. You have the high-quality, high-cost items chosen already – but you need a budget-friendly option.

What should you choose?

You don’t want to sell a low-quality, inferior product because that would harm your reputation. Are NEXGEN cabinet doors an option?

At Cutting Edge, we have produced and sold NEXGEN cabinet doors for over five years. We understand the pros and cons of these doors, the issues and advantages – and have found that the supplier of the NEXGEN material has a major impact on these.

So, in this article, you will find information about NEXGEN doors in colours by Tafisa® (excluding their Karisma® collection, which is an entirely different product). Keep reading to learn:

But first, let’s take a quick look at what NEXGEN doors are.

NEXGEN™ cabinet doors are a wrapped product

Olon Industries Inc. trademarked the original NEXGEN™ cabinet doors in 2016. Since then, additional suppliers have created alternative products, like the Karisma product by Tafisa. Now, people in the industry refer to any five-piece door with an MDF core and a TFL or laminate wrap as NEXGEN doors.

Thanks to the MDF core, NEXGEN doors are cost-effective and stable. The TFL and laminate wraps allow these doors to mimic wood doors and provide additional benefits, like heat, scratch, and fade resistance.

Now for the pros and cons!

Pros of NEXGEN cabinet doors in Tafisa colours

NEXGEN doors are a unique product with some equally unique benefits. The first two benefits are thanks to the properties and characteristics of the product Olon Industries Inc. developed.

Because each supplier of NEXGEN products develops their own decorative wraps, the last two pros are due to Tafisa’s expertise.

1. Durable and stable

As you already know, NEXGEN doors have an MDF core wrapped in a decorative material.

However, this decorative material is not purely decorative. The wrap provides heat-, scratch-, and fade-resistance. In other words, it is difficult to damage these doors. And, if you eventually need to replace a door, the new door will still match because the material doesn’t fade or change colour over time.

In addition, the MDF core provides stability. Unlike wood, MDF doesn’t have the same tendency to move (warp or twist) over time.

2. Cost-effective alternative to wood doors

You have another reason to appreciate the Olon Industries team. The MDF core (a low-cost and stable product) keeps the NEXGEN doors stable and cost-effective. Combined with the decorative wrap, which eliminates the need for costly custom finishing, NEXGEN cabinet doors are a great option for budget projects.

The cost of a typical NEXGEN cabinet door is nearly the same as the cost of a typical Maple shaker-style cabinet door – however, you save easily $10 per square foot because you don’t have to pay for finishing.

In addition, NEXGEN cabinet doors look much like wood doors, with the same five-piece construction. Often, we produce NEXGEN doors with a mitred joint, which provides the best structural stability. However, you can also order NEXGEN doors with a cope and stick joint to more closely imitate wood doors.

3. Easy to clean

Now, let’s look at Tafisa’s part in this product. Tafisa’s decorative wraps have little texture, which makes them easy to clean.

4. Wide range of colours and patterns

However, the lack of texture doesn’t mean that decorative wraps are boring. Tafisa has developed a range of decorative wraps in many colours and patterns.

Our team can’t stock all of these colours, though – which takes us to the first issue with these doors.

Cons of NEXGEN cabinet doors in Tafisa colours

There are four drawbacks to NEXGEN doors in Tafisa colours. Before we begin, our team is in no way criticizing Tafisa’s team, products, or supply. The following points are observations we have made over the years that you need to consider when deciding whether to display these products in your showroom.

1. Our team can only stock a limited selection

Multiple suppliers develop and sell NEXGEN products. Each colour has a minimum order quantity, depending on the supplier.

We have limited warehouse space. So, to keep a representation from each supplier, we must limit the quantity of colours we keep in stock.

Combined with some supply chain issues (which we discuss shortly), this has led us to decrease our stock of Tafisa products. We currently stock five colours from two Tafisa collections – Viva and Feria. You can view our available NEXGEN colours here.

2. It can take up to eight weeks to restock products

Tafisa is not the cause of this delay. Due to the high demand for NEXGEN products, it can take up to eight weeks for our team to receive new stock.

To combat this, we keep a minimum quantity of the material in stock. However, if we receive a large order without prior notice, we may deplete our stock before replacement material arrives.

In this case, our team will notify you of the delay and provide an estimated timeline.

3. Our supplier can discontinue products without notice

Again, this is not a problem with Tafisa. Our supplier is a middleman who controls which products they provide. They can (and have, in the past) made decisions to discontinue products without warning.

When you have a product in your showroom that you can no longer order, it is a problem. You then can’t order replacements or additional pieces to match completed orders. All of these scenarios lead to unhappy customers, which harms your reputation.

4. Tafisa colours aren’t a perfect imitation of real wood

Although Tafisa has a wide range of decorative wraps in many colours and patterns, those colours and patterns don’t achieve the same level of mimicry as the products from other suppliers.

Should you display NEXGEN doors in Tafisa colours?

Your display (and the products you sell) are your choice

However, as a company that has worked with NEXGEN products for many years, our recommendation would be to limit the quantity of Tafisa colours you display. And, if possible, show products from a different supplier.

Supply chain issues are no joke, especially when you need to complete jobs on a set timeline.

In addition, there is a chance that our supplier may discontinue the colours we currently stock. In this case, you are left with a product displayed in your showroom that you can no longer order. You then have to either source the product from another company or replace your display – both of which are time-consuming and costly.
