Updated November 22, 2024
Learn about the warranty coverage for NEXGEN cabinet doors, including potential problems like warping and off-level joints.
For cabinet makers and contractors, the kitchen is more than just the heart of a home – it’s the centerpiece of your craft and your client’s vision. Every decision, from materials to finishes, plays a role in shaping a space that’s both functional and inviting. Among all the components you manage, cabinet doors have the greatest impact on the kitchen’s overall style and feel. Selecting the wrong door can create a cramped or uninviting look, potentially leaving your clients dissatisfied, undermining your reputation and the success of your project.
If you’re considering NEXGEN™ cabinet doors, you’re likely weighing their durability and affordability against potential concerns about quality. Are they a smart investment for your next project, or will they fall short of your expectations?
At Cutting Edge, we produce and sell NEXGEN cabinet doors. However, we are fully aware that they aren’t the only option out there. Nor are they the best option for every scenario.
So, if you need to learn about potential problems with and warranty coverage for NEXGEN doors, this is a good place to start. In this article, you will learn about
NEXGEN Cabinet Doors Are a TFL Pre-Wrapped Product
Before we dive in, let’s take a quick look at what NEXGEN doors are.
NEXGEN doors are an MDF product wrapped in a NEXGEN material, either polyester or TFL. Olon Industries Inc. produces NEXGEN material; they trademarked the product in 2016.
Thanks to the wrap, NEXGEN doors look very similar to wood doors. In addition, they are extremely durable, easy to clean, low maintenance, and inexpensive.

Now, let’s learn about the warranty coverage.
NEXGEN Cabinet Doors Have 1-Year Warranty Coverage From Cutting Edge
NEXGEN doors from Cutting Edge have a one-year limited warranty coverage. We measure that year from the date the NEXGEN cabinet doors leave our facility; you can find the shipping date on your invoice.
What Does the Warranty Cover?
The warranty covers any manufacturing defects, such as damaged or incorrect pieces. Some more examples of manufacturing defects are:
- Incorrect sizing (since some of our machinery is only accurate to within 0.76mm, the doors have to be more than 0.76mm undersized or oversized for us to warranty them)
- Doors built with the wrong material
- Gappy mitre joints
Our warranty coverage also covers shipping damage. If your shipment is damaged in transit, send our team pictures of the damaged parcels and pieces so we can submit a freight claim.
You can request a warranty replacement if you receive a cabinet door with a manufacturing defect or shipping damage.
What Doesn’t the Warranty Cover?
However, the warranty does not cover the following:
- NEXGEN doors 43” or taller, which warp during their lifetime. Because NEXGEN products have an MDF core, they aren’t as unstable as wood doors. However, the NEXGEN materials do not allow us to add extra components like center rails to stabilize the doors.
- Off-level joints. Because NEXGEN is a pre-fabricated product, there can be slight variations from piece to piece. When this occurs, it causes the joints to be slightly off-level, about the thickness of a piece of loose-leaf paper. Off-level joints are especially noticeable in solid-coloured doors because no patterns or textures are there to distract the eye.
Potential Problems With NEXGEN Cabinet Doors and the Solutions
NEXGEN cabinet doors aren’t perfect. Indeed, you’ve already briefly looked at two potential problems that might be a game-changer for you. While we don’t want to freak you out (these are problems that might occur), it is only fair to mention them before you decide to purchase NEXGEN doors.
Warping and Twisting
As we’ve already mentioned, NEXGEN cabinet doors have an MDF core. Although MDF is durable and stable, it’s not as naturally strong as wood. Thus, NEXGEN doors 43” or taller may warp (or bend) because the overall weight of the door is more than the MDF of the frame can keep straight.
Warped NEXGEN doors are very rare. Over the last two years, we produced 15,387 NEXGEN doors; of those doors, one was warped.
If your NEXGEN cabinet doors warp, you can correct the warp by adding additional hinges. In fact, we recommend you add a third hinge to any NEXGEN doors between 43” and 60” tall. You should use at least four hinges for doors over 60” tall. Additional hinges help to support the door and hold it straight.
Off-Level Joints
You’ve already learned that the warranty coverage does not cover off-level joints. Unfortunately, our team has had limited success in preventing this issue. The root cause is slight thickness inconsistencies in the NEXGEN product, which are impossible to correct. However, our team does check the quality of the doors before shipping them out. Any doors that fail our quality inspection get rejected and remade.
So what can you do? Simply ensure you or your customer understands that this is a potential issue. And, if you receive a NEXGEN door with joints that are more off-level than the thickness of a sheet of loose-leaf paper, contact our team for a replacement piece.
What If You Receive a Defective NEXGEN Door?
While our team conducts quality checks on every shipment before it leaves our shop, you may still receive a defective door. What do you do then?
If you receive a defective door, start by taking photos of the door showing the defect. Then, reach out to Cutting Edge with the order number, ID number, size of the door, an explanation of the issue, and the pictures.
Our team will take it from there, ensuring you receive a warranty replacement promptly.
Alternatively, you can submit a warranty replacement request using our online ordering platform.
